Principal’s Message

Dear Westside K-8 Students, Parents and Staff,

My name is Nadia Winston and I am proud to be principal of Westside K-8 school. As a child of a father in the military, I had the unique opportunity to learn in various educational systems.  While in my 10th grade year in England, my father made the decision to retire from the military and move to Florida where I completed my high school career and later attended The University of Florida. Because of being a product of the Florida educational system, I know how fortunate we are to assist others in partaking in such great educational opportunities. My passion for student success started in Osceola County as a middle school teacher where I taught Language Arts and English Honors for 5 years and continued as Dean of Students for 2 years.  Due to a personal desire to influence more students, and to help develop the lives of students outside my class as well as inside, I decided to become an administrator.  I served as Assistant Principal then the Principal of Highlands Elementary School here in Osceola County for the past seven years.

As your principal, I am extremely excited to be part of the Westside K-8 community.  I am thrilled to be the educational leader of such a student centered school.  Westside K-8 has dedicated and talented teachers who are motivated to help every student achieve.  This is evident when one looks at years of high achievement.  One of my goals, as principal, is to support and promote the established foundation of collaboration between teachers, and further promote the highest degree of education for every student, ensuring continued growth.  Our teachers will continue to work in their collaborative teams to develop the most effective teaching strategies to ensure students are truly grasping the main concepts of the curriculum in every classroom.

We are fortunate to have a strong community at Westside K-8 School.  There are numerous ways for students and parents to stay involved.  Whether students are involved in various clubs or extracurricular activities, or as a parent you are a classroom volunteer, a member of the PTO/SAC, school function volunteer, or chaperone, all are encouraged to be involved!  Research on schools clearly suggests that parent and student participation in school coincides with a greater likelihood of academic success.

I am aware of all the hard work our school has done over the past few years to improve the school environment and am so proud to call myself a Westside Warrior.  I firmly believe in open and meaningful communication between school and home.  My door is always open so please take the time to stop and say hello. I am looking forward to meeting each and every one of you during the course of the year.

I am honored and humbled to be your principal.  We will continue to work hard to make the Westside experience a tremendous one.   The heart of any school begins and ends with the people who enter it every day, from the staff, to the students and finally, their families. As principal, I will work to build a community where each and every one of those people, when asked where they work or attend school, will respond with a sense of intense pride in stating: Westside K-8 School.

Sincerely,

Nadia Winston
